Success for Lake Parsippany's First Art Gallery

There was a high turnout for this inaugural event.

The Lake Parsippany School gym was full of kids and parents Tuesday night for the PTA’s inaugural art gallery, which featured artwork of varying mediums from students K-5.

“I’m amazed” by the turnout,” said PTA member Diane Campbell. “I’m so happy because the entire reason why I did this was to encourage everybody to be creative and that’s exactly what we did. The students used different mediums and everybody is coming out and supporting it. I couldn’t have asked for a better turnout.

Paint, construction paper, clay and fabric were some of the creative mediums students used.

Campbell's daughter Sarah volunteered to help out and manned the register. Sarah Campbell said that they "plan to do it next year" and she gave a quick explanation of the voting process:

Parents could buy voting packets for $5 for a packet of paper ribbons. Students then looked at each artwork and voted for their favorites by stuffing ribbons into the artwork’s corresponding envelope.

All the money goes to PTA-sponsored programs for the school.

“I think it’s a great turnout and a good family event,” said Fourth Grade Teacher Nancy Dwyer. “The students were able to express themselves freely and this gave students a creative outlet. It’s a good school to home connection.”

Winners will be announced on Wednesday morning and winners will get a certificate and a goodie bag with art supplies. There was also an interactive art station for students and fourth grader Jordan Rabadi was collecting Rainbow Looms Creations at his Rainbows and Smiles table for a charitable cause. Check back with Patch on more about Rabadi's cause.

Campbell added that they hope to make this event annual and bring it back each year "to celebrate our students' hard work."
