Superintendent Search Kicks Into High Gear This Week

Two closed sessions to be held by board of education to find full-time schools chief.

After a week in which it needed two snow days and two delayed openings, the Parsippany School District will be busy once again – this time taking care of administrative business.

On Wednesday the board of education will meet in a closed executive session at 6:30 p.m. to conduct interviews for a new, full-time superintendent. The board will meet again on Saturday at 9 a.m. to conduct more interviews.

On Thursday, the board will meet to hold its regular meeting, but will start at 5:30 p.m. to conduct interviews for an architect. The open session is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.

Currently John Fitzsimmons is serving as the district’s interim superintendent and has been since former schools chief and oft-embattled Leroy Seitz resigned in March 2013.

A community survey regarding the search was conducted last fall, bringing in more than 200 responses.

What do you think of the search? Has it gone on too long? Is the board of education doing a good job in due diligence?

Eliminate as many administration positions as possible thru consolidations. Try to save tax dollars !!!!

As long as it isn't the Director of Curriculum or the Director of Personnel.

Really? I think Dr. Gigante would be a good pick for superintendent. I honestly think she should have gotten it years ago. She's very smart.

There are many smart people. Parsippany needs strong leadership.

Not everybody has that leadership thing.
