The Rutgers certification is required for any individual who will have contact with children on the field, either during practice or a game, in the PTLLE program. The Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Clinic (Sports Awareness for Educating Today's Youth) is a three-hour program that meets the "Minimum Standards for Volunteer Coaches Safety Orientation and Training Skills Programs" (N.J.A.C. 5:52) and provides partial civil immunity protection to volunteer coaches under the "Little League Law" (2A:62A-6 et. seq.) This certification applies to both managers and coaches. Without proof of this certification you WILL NOT be allowed to volunteer as a coach or have any involvement with the children on the field.

Pre-Registration is preferred so that we can have the appropriate materials on hand. In order to pre-register, please contact Jeff Kreitman at coaches@parsippanybaseball.com no later than Tuesday, February 21st. You will receive confirmation that you are pre-registered.

The class will run on Tuesday, February 28th from 7:00PM until 10:00PM at the Parsippany High School Cafeteria and you must stay for the entire class to be certified. Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes early to complete the registration process and make payment. The cost is $37 and is payable by cash, check or money order.

Please note that once the instructor begins the class at 7:00PM, no one will be admitted to the class even if they pre-registered. This is Rutgers' rule, not the leagues. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS! The course is not sport specific and does not teach how to play or coach a particular sport.

The curriculum of the course covers:

  • Legal Aspects of Coaching
  • Psychological Aspects of Coaching
  • General Coaching Concepts
