Par Hills 4th, Parsippany High 5th After Day 1 of District Wrestling Championships

Competition resumes Saturday morning at Morristown High School.

was in fourth place and was right behind in fifth after Day 1 of the NJSIAA District 9 Wrestling Tournament Friday at Morristown High School.

“It’s a typical Friday night at districts. Anyone can beat anyone,” Morristown coach Brian Young said. “It comes down to one match. If you win, you’re on to the next day, if you lose, your season is over. It's pretty much down to who wants it the most and we saw a couple 1-seeds go down tonight along with other high seeds, so you can see its pretty much do or die."

Delbarton led the competition after Day 1 with 106 points through the preliminary and quarterfinal rounds.

Parsippany Hills High School contributed with a few emotionally charged victories on the night. Senior Mike Allesandra burst into tears as he jolted forward to hug his coach after his upset victory over Whippany Park senior Garry Falkman in their 160-pound match.

Par Hills sophomore Christian Signorelli won by pinfall in 1:46 over Morristown’s Myles Mislofsky at 125 pounds.

Parsippany also turned in some impressive performances as senior Phillip Tomaro dominated in his pin of Max Daniel Sokollek, of Mountain Lakes.

In the 171-pound match, senior James Morgan pinned Delbarton freshman James Grogan in 32 seconds. Parsippany's Juwad Yunus won be decision over Par Hills’ Kyle Stilwell in the heavyweight division.

The competition resumes Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m., with the finals slated for 3 p.m.
