Parsippany Boy Sets Long Jump Record at Regional Junior Olympic Championships

Nana Agyemang took first place in three events, will compete on national stage in Texas.

Nana Agyemang’s summer is shaping up to be pretty amazing.

As a member of the Morris County Track Club, the Parsippany boy recently competedin the USATF Region 2 Junior Olympic Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Richard Stockton College, and he left his mark for all to see.

Agyemeng competed in the 11-12-year-old boys division long jump event, and set a meet record of 5.64 meters, clearly good enough for first place. He also took first place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.52 seconds, and first place in the 200-meter race with a time of 25.42 seconds.

The top five athletes in each event/division advance to the 2014 USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championship in Humbler, Texas.

Agyemeng will be joined by a few teammates, including Matias Pellegrino, of Denville, who took first in the 13-14-year-old boys division long jump and second in the triple jump. Danya Spoor of New Vernon placed second in the girls 8 and under 400-meter race, and Elorm Akasreku of Landing, who placed third in the boys 15-16-year-old long jump. Rawle James Workman will also make the trip after placing fourth in the 11-12-year-old boys division long jump.
