Parsippany Boys Fall to Madison in Opener

Par Hills boys stop West Morris.

The boys basketball team’s season got off to a tough start on Friday night, as the Red Hawks fell to Madison, 57-41, at Parsippany High.

It was the first game of the season for a young Parsippany team and its first-year head coach Byron Hamby, and excluding a second quarter that saw them outscored 21-9, the Red Hawks stayed competitive against a tough conference opponent.

“Our effort was pretty good tonight,” Hamby said after the game. “I just think our youth showed. I think our inexperience led to a lot of turnovers and defensively we just got caught out of position at times. But we just need to come back the next day in practice and work on getting better and fixing those little mistakes, and hopefully do better the next time around.”

Lionel Chambers’ 10 points led all Parsippany scorers, while Kyle Tarabocchia finished with eight points and Max Berns and Sagar Patel each scored seven.

“It’s still a adjusting process,” Hamby explained after the game. “The first day of tryouts was the first time I met [the team], so we’re still learning each other. And a lot of these guys are young. They didn’t play major roles last year on the varsity level, so there’s a whole lot of learning experience going on.”
