IN SHORT
After the Vikings belted two solo home runs by Cara McNeil and Kylie Taylor in the fourth inning, the Cougar infield played defensively flawless under their long stretching first baseman Kelly Winans. Heads up base running helped the Cougars score runs on wild pitches that proved to be the difference.
VIKING THE GAME
Cara McNeil—The first baseman went 1-for-3 with a home run.
With the Vikings down 1-0 in the fourth inning, McNeil came to plate and rocked a long fly ball over the head of Chatham’s center fielder. At full speed, McNeil rounded the bases and slid into home for her first home run of the season and the tying run. After the monster hit, the Vikings rallied behind their first baseman and Kylie Taylor hit a home run of her own off the momentum.
OTHER KEY PERFORMANCES
Amanda Fazio (Chatham), pitched six innings and recorded six strikeouts; Kylie Taylor (Parsippany Hills), went 1-for-3 with a home run.
THEY SAID IT
"It was a fight for my team with each base I rounded. We needed a shift in the momentum and that’s what I’m here for. We fought until the end—we really did, but it just didn’t end our way."—Cara McNeil
“I’m really happy with how we played today. Chatham is an excellent team and we really gave them a game"–Head coach Chrissy Russell
