With the winter sports season over, it's time to take a look at a few of Parsippany Hills High School's teams of 2010-11:
Boys Basketball: For head coach Mark Gibson and the Par Hills boys basketball team, a 2010-11 season that saw the Vikings finish 2-21, wasn’t exactly what the group had in mind. But even with the tough year, Gibson’s young group showed resiliency, keeping games close against tough competition with the likes of Roxbury, Chatham and Morris Catholic, while pulling out wins against Hanover Park and Randolph.
Outstanding Competitors: Brian Mulcahy led all Viking scorers, averaging more than eight points per game, while Michael DiEdwardo averaged just over seven points per game and led Par Hills in rebounding.
Boys Ice Hockey: It was a tough season for first-year head coach Joe Swanson and his young Par Hills hockey team as the Vikings struggled to a 3-15-1 finish.
While very young and inexperienced in Swanson's system, the Vikings were still able to put together wins over Morris Catholic, as well as two wins over Morris Hills.
Outstanding Competitor: Leading the way for Par Hills was . Meunier helped keep her Vikings squad in games with acrobatic and effective goalkeeping, averaging 27 saves per game and blocking 52 shots in the Vikings' 5-0 loss to West Morris in the first round of the Haas Cup.
Girls Basketball: Like many of the Par Hills’ winter teams, the girls basketball team came into the season with a young roster after graduating its three captains from last winter. But despite its 3-20 mark at season's end, head coach Tony Maccarella’s squad put together an impressive base for the future.
With only two seniors, Lindsey Marxen and Rebecca Becher, the Vikings assembled wins over Morristown, Leonia and Morris Hills High School, and played Chatham to a narrow 49-40 loss in the first round of the state tournament.
Outstanding Competitors: Donyelle Stuetley led the Par Hills offense as the junior averaged just under eight points per game, and went for a season-high 17 against Chatham in the first round of the state tournament.
