CFCS Returning to Help Flood Survivors

On this visit to Parsippany, Project Recover will present a support group setting allowing residents to share tips on writing letters to banks and insurance firms.

A special meeting for Lake Hiawatha residents affected by last summer's Hurricane Irene flooding is in the offing for Parsippany.

The neighborhood meeting takes place Thursday, May 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the at 1130 Knoll Road.

This will not be the first of these Project Recover gatherings. In February, a meeting was hosted by  of  for Project Recover, a program of the . Volunteers were on hand to present strategies for navigating the stormy seas of red tape for people still suffering about nine months after 2011's unprecedented floods.

The May 24 session will focus on having flood survivors share success stories and tips on writing effective letters to banks and insurance companies.

The support-group format dovetails with Project Recover's mission, according to Team Leader Wendy Chin.

"We offer them a helping hand in dealing with FEMA and other agencies," Chin said. "We also provide counseling to help people cope with everything happening to them. Sometimes people just need a little support."
