MLK Day of Service 2014 Volunteer Opportunities

Start the year off right by making an impact.

Do something good for someone else and be part of a national movement.

As the organizers of the MLK Day of Service point out, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'"

In 1994, Congress designated the Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday as a national day of service and charged the Corporation for National and Community Service with leading this effort. Taking place each year on the third Monday in January, the MLK Day of Service is the only federal holiday observed as a national day of service – a "day on, not a day off."

In our region, the Volunteer Center of United Way has a list of opportunities to do just that on or around MLK Day.

One important note: the opportunities below are all on Monday, Jan. 20 and there are more to be found at JerseryCares.com. Although there are no volunteer options listed for Parsippany, there are plenty nearby. Act fast, they're filling up!
