Hearing for Proposed Parsippany Vet Housing This Week

School starts back up with plenty of PTA meetings and pep rallies.

Here’s a look at what’s going on this week in Parsippany:

Monday

  • There’s a Planning Board Workshop at Parsippany Hills High School at 7:30 p.m.
  • The Golden Age Club is an organization for men and women age 60 and older who are interested in participating in discussions, trips and parties. Meetings are held on the first and third Monday of the month, but this month, it was canceled on Sept. 2 due to Labor Day, so it was moved to this Monday at Parsippany Community Center, Knoll Road, Lake Hiawatha from 11:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. For more information, contact Vincent Aperawic – (973) 386-9356
  • There will be Zumba For Seniors at 10 a.m. at the Parsippany-Troy Hills Free Public Library and it’s $5 per class. Participants will pay for each class separately. Registration is limited to 60 participants and required.  Contact Corinne Markey at 973-887-5150 x215 to sign up
  • There’s an AA meeting from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at the Fellowship Hall of Parsippany United Methodist Church. Contact ckeller430@gmail.com for more information.

Wednesday

  • Central Middle School Fall Sports Tryouts Begin on Wednesday.
  • The Northvail Elementary School PTA meets at 7 p.m. Parsippany Hills High School has its Fall Pep Rally on Wednesday
  • The Zoning Board will meet at the Municipal Building at 7:30 p.m. On the agenda is a long-underway effort to build affordable housing for veterans at Zandy's Acres on Old Dover Road. It's a request to construct three buildings, holding a total of 26 multi-family units. This will be a continued hearing on this carried from the June 19th meeting. Also on the agenda is a request from William Henning and Thomas Carlyon, who are seeking to build a new single family unit at 33 Scenic Dr.
  • For St. Ann’s Seniors, there’s Intermediate Conversational English at Parsippany Community Center, Knoll Road, Lake Hiawatha at 10 a.m.
  • Word 2010 Basics at 2:30 p.m. at the Parsippany-Troy Hills Free Public Library. Please call 973-887-5150 x209 or email reference@parsippanylibrary.org to sign up.
  • Registration is mandatory.

Thursday

  • Thursday is the last day to sign up for a Fall Festival Space. The Township’s 12th Annual Fall Festival is Sunday, Sept. 22. There will be entertainment, rides, and other attractions. Proceeds of this day will be donated to non-profit groups in the town.
  • The Parsippany High School Fall Pep Rally is Thursday.
  • Mt. Tabor Elementary School is hosting its Ice Cream Social at 6:30 p.m.
  • The Parsippany-Troy Hills Board of Education Meeting is Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
  • For seniors, there’s Bingo at Parsippany Community Center, Knoll Road, Lake Hiawatha at 1 p.m. in Room B
  • Stop by at the Parsippany-Troy Hills Free Public Library 
  • for a movie Wednesday night. 'A Place at the Table' starts at 6:30 p.m. and the 2012 movie's runtime is 84 minutes. The 2012 Sundance Film Festival Best Documentary Nominee is rated PG. 
  • There’s an AA meeting from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at the Fellowship Hall of Parsippany United Methodist Church. Contact ckeller430@gmail.com for more information.
  • The Greater Parsippany Kiwanis Club meets every Thursday morning at 7:15 a.m. at Empire Diner, 1315 Route 46. Newcomers and visiting clubs are always welcome.
  • Parsippany Recreation's 2013 Concert Series presents "The Bronx Wanderers" on Friday at 7:30 p.m. This is the concert that was originally scheduled for Aug. 28. This show echoes the era of the past while breathing new life into the sound of today. Their ultimate tribute to Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons and Dion will feature crowd favorites "Sherry", "Big Girls Don't Cry" "Walk Like A Man" "Run Around Sue", "The Wanderer", and many more. They will bring you the best of The Four Seasons, The Jersey Boys, and the Bronx and Beyond, according to the Township’s flyer.
  • Please note, no pets are permitted in Veterans Park during the concerts. The Township would also like to thank GSK –GlaxoSmithKline, Provident Bank & Shop-Rite of Parsippany / Sunrise Kitchens for their continued support of the community and the Concert Series.

Friday

  • The farmers market is every Friday from 1 - 7 p.m. The market carries a variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, honey, and flowers. Stop by and check it out at the Town Parking Lot at the corner of North Beverwyck Road and Minnehaha Avenue in Lake Hiawatha
  • There’s an AA meeting from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at the Fellowship Hall of Parsippany United Methodist Church. Contact ckeller430@gmail.com for more information.
  • There’s also a Caregivers Support Group that meets monthly in the St. Peter the Apostle Church Convent on the second Friday of the month at 7:30 p.m.  The purpose of this group is to give respite to those who care for loved ones.  It is facilitated by former caregivers and registered nurses.
