Parsippany musicians raised more than $14,000 through a benefit concert to provide free surgeries for children with a cleft lip or palate. The 4Smiles Benefit Concert, held on April 27, at Parsippany Hills High School, raised money for Operation Smile, a nonprofit organization that provides the free surgeries. The benefit raised $14,000 and will provide new smiles to 58 children and a chance to escape a lifetime of pain, shame, and isolation, members of the organization said in a written statement. A Brooklawn Middle School classroom was closed off after hazardous residue was found in a light fixture.
Parsippany-Troy Hills School officials have decided to close a Brooklawn Middle School classroom for the duration of the year after hazardous materials were found in a light fixture. “We discovered residue on a ceiling mounted light fixture in one classroom at the close of school last Friday,” Parsippany-Troy Hills Interim Superintendent Dr. John Fitzsimons said in a letter to parents. “The residue was from old lighting ballasts replaced many years ago in all of our schools,” he said. “The older ballasts contained PCBs, a man-made chemical that persist in the environment and were widely used in construction materials and electrical products prior to 1978. Parsippany Hills High School teacher Jenna Leahey's bail was lowered from $100,000 to $50,000 by a Superior Court judge on Tuesday.
Bail for Parsippany Hills High School teacher Jenna Leahey was lowered in Superior Court Tuesday, by request of her attorney, according to a report. Leahey, a Morristown resident, was recently charged with criminal sexual contact for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old male student. Her attorney, Alan Zegas, requested the lower bail, saying that Leahey “poses zero risk of flight,” nj.com reported. The bail was lowered from $100,000 to $50,000. Leahey appeared in court via a video hookup from the Morris County jail. As a bail condition, Leahey is not allowed to have contact with anyone younger than 18, Judge Mary Gibbons Whipple in Morristown said, according to the report. Richie Wright, a fifth grade student at Lake Parsippany Elementary School, scraped and saved his money to buy the next best video game, but ultimately decided to use his money to help one local student battle cancer. What an inspiring story. I am not surprised that it was a student from Lake Parsippany School. Charity and community service is such an important part of the Principal's mission. Students of Parsippany High School will host a lakeside benefit concert on Saturday to fund a volunteer trip to repair homes damaged by Hurricane Sandy. The Hurricane Sandy benefit concert, called “Mission Possible!” will be held Saturday, June 8, at 6 p.m. on the beach of Lake Pasippany. The concert, located at Drewes Beach on Lake Shore Drive, will feature local New Jersey bands like Shades of Purple, E.L.I. and the Vibe! Admission will cost $15 for adults and $10 for young adults ages 12 to 18. Children 11 under will be free if they accompany someone who paid admission.
