Tough Opener for Par Hills Boys Hoops

Vikings coach encouraged by his young team's performance down the stretch.

The Parsippany Hills High School boys basketball team lost to a polished West Morris squad in the season opener for both squads in Parsippany on Friday night,  80-34. But the score doesn't tell the whole story. The Vikings showed hustle and a fighting spirit, which bodes well for the young team, according to head coach Mark Gibson. "We have several areas to improve on, but I did feel we got better as the game went on ... we got a little looser,'' he said.   Gibson pointed out that in the fourth quarter, the Vikings were still outscored by the Wolfpack, but by a much smaller margin than earlier in the game.  The Wolfpack quickly overcoming an early lead by Parsippany to steal the momentum at the start of the first quarter.  "The first one …

Red Hawks Play Tough in Opener

Parsippany led talented Madison squad heading into the fourth quarter before falling.

Despite leading 43-42 heading into the fourth quarter, the Parsippany High School boys basketball team struggled late, resulting in a 66-54 loss to Madison in the season-opener in Madison on Friday night. But the final score isn't indicative of the Red Hawks' performance against a very strong Madison team as Parsippany, led by senior point guard Peter Gonzalez, looked to possibly be on its way to an upset though three quarters. "This was a good test for us," head coach Daryl Palmieri said. "We played, really, the best team in the conference on the first night. I'm proud of the way that we competed with them on the road, but it's all for naught if we don't come out on Tuesday fired up and really go after Morris Catholic. We've got to build …
