Municipal Alliance Committee Kicks Off Its 2012 Work

The body works to prevent alcohol and drug abuse in Parsippany.

The township's Municipal Alliance Committee held its first meeting of 2012 at the Parsippany Police Athletic League Center on Jan. 23. The group, comprised of members of the community appointed by the mayor, has a mission to prevent alcohol and drug abuse in Parsippany through community-based programs.  At the gathering, the all-volunteer panel elected new officers and started planning the year's activities. This year's executive board is comprised of Chairperson Annelise Catanzaro, who was elected to her fourth term as chair, Vice Chair Louis Vallori and Secretary Sandra Neglia.  "I'm especially eager to begin work for MAC this year because of the great group of people working on the committee," she said. "We have some veteran members who…

What a wonderful group of dedicated volunteers. I'm so glad to see that Ms Catanzaro is still president of the committee and Mrs Neglia and Mr Valori are great assets too. Parsippany is truly blessed to have such community minded citizens. I appreciate all the good work of all the volunteers on MAC.   more ›

Elections 2011

Council Challengers Show United Front for Election Day

The Democratic council candidates met up at Knollwood Elementary School.

It's tough to be a Democrat in a Republican town. That's why the three candidates running for Township Council seats in the Tuesday general election are spending the day together, and accompanying each other to their respective polling places. Patch met up with Annelise Catanzaro, Janice McCarthy and Tom Wyka at Knollwood Elementary School. Turnout is slow here, so far, according to poll workers. Whether that works for or against the Democrats remains to be seen. The three candidates, however, are upbeat when it coes to their quest of making Parsippany's council, in their view, more representative of the town's political diversity. "It's been a long haul, this campaign. It's been many months of knocking on doors, writing postcardstalking …

Elections 2011: June Primary

Democrat Catanzaro 'Thinking Positive' at Knollwood

Voter turnout is very slow this morning.

Voting continues to go slowly in Parsippany on this Election Day. At Knollwood Elementary School at just after 10 a.m., a poll workers said only 12 voters have made their way to the polling station so far. One of the early birds was Annelise Catanzaro, chairperson of the Municipal Alliance Committee and a candidate running for a Township Council seat on the Vote for Parsippany ticket. "I hope things get busier," she said, admitting to feeling some nervousness this morning. "I guess that's normal," she said. Catanzaro said she has been getting encouragement from the people of Parsippany. "I've been getting some nice comments, even from Republicans," she said. "We've campaigned hard and now I just hope for the best." Voters in Parsippany …

Elections 2011: June Primary

Council Candidate Annelise Catanzaro: One-Party Rule 'Isn't Healthy'

The head of the Municipal Alliance Committee says she can bring a fresh voice to the council.

Don't let Annelise Catanzaro's mild-mannered exterior fool you. As chairperson of Parsippany's Municipal Alliance Committee, Catanzaro works passionately to educate the public on the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. Now she is running for Town Council on a Democratic ticket that includes Janice McCarthy and Tom Wyka. In the June 7 primary, the slate has one opponent, self-proclaimed Independent Democrat Robert Hofacker. But Catanzaro's focus is on the Republican Team Parsippany ticket and educating the public on civic issues she considers important. When she sees the government making a decision she feels is irresponsible or wasteful—as in the case of the Township Council's 2008 approval of a contract with the Morris County Joint …
