NJ Railroad History Comes Alive in Boonton

First annual Railroad and Transportation Festival takes place Sept. 16.

If you like trains, organizers say you will love the United Railroad Historical Society of New Jersey's first-ever Railroad and Transportation Festival, which takes place in nearby Boonton Sept. 16. Society President Frank Reilly said the event is all about celebrating New Jersey’s rich transportation history. Among the exhibited items will be the Pennsylvania Railroad's famous 1930s vintage streamlined GG-1s, which Reilly said are the largest electric locomotives that ever operated in New Jersey. "They were the giants of the rails," he said. "Every day they traveled over 100 mph between New York City and Washington, D.C., on some of the world’s most famous trains." See The Horn Antenna of Holmdel Rotate

Radio Test Engineer Peter Guerlain of Boonton explains how the Horn Antenna in Holmdel works, and how it was used to confirm the existence of cosmic energy left over from the "Big Bang." On July 10, Steve Wolkovitz captured the rare sight of its movement.

Prosecutor: Husband, Female Acquaintance Plotted Boonton Murder

Each charged with first-degree murder, other offenses in fatal shooting that killed mother of two.

The husband of a woman who was fatally shot on a Boonton street earlier this week and a female aquaintance of his have been charged with first-degree murder, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office announced Friday morning. Kashif Parvaiz, 26, of Brooklyn, N.Y., has been charged with first-degree murder, first-degree conspiracy to commit murder, two counts of second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, third-degree hindering apprehension or prosecution and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child. Prosecutor: Boonton Shooting Likely a Targeted Attack

27-year-old woman killed and her husband wounded while walking with their 3-year-old son.

A shooting late Tuesday night that left one woman dead and her husband wounded on a street in Boonton was a targeted attack, according to the Morris County Prosecutor's Office. Nazish Noorani, 27, was killed and her husband, Kashif Pervaiz, was wounded in the incident that occurred Tuesday night at about 11:30 p.m., according to a story on NJ.com. The couple went for a walk with their 3-year-old son from a relative's home on William Street toward the woman's father's home on Cedar Street after a late Ramadan supper, according to NJ.com. The child was in a stroller and not harmed in the incident, NJ.com reported.  Citing the ongoing investigation, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office has released limited details of the incident.
