CCM registrar will address participants at Relay for Life of Greater Parsippany event in Veteran's Park.
Michele Dunn has not one but two main reasons for participating in this year's Relay for Life of Greater Parsippany event: to honor her late father who lost his battle to cancer in December 2007 and to celebrate her own lymphoma being in remission since January 2008. Dunn, a Lincoln Park resident, will serve as this year's Survivor Speaker at the event, which will be held overnight from June 8 to June 9. Commencement ceremony will include Peace Prize announcement, speech from college president.
The County College of Morris (CCM) will graduate more than 1,100 students Thursday as the college hosts its 44th annual commencement ceremony. CCM President Edward Yaw will serve as the speaker of the event, which begins at 7 p.m. To highlight the graduation ceremony, the school will announce this year's Peace Prize winner, Alisa Brescic of Budd Lake. "Students were invited to create works focused on the general theme of world peace while expressing themselves through a number of artistic forms including writing, music, dance or visual arts," the college noted in a press release. Report shows County College of Morris had a higher rate of students moving on to continue education than 19 other community colleges in the state.

The County College of Morris (CCM) leads the state in having the highest percentage of students transfer from the school to continue their education according to data released by the U.S. Department of Education last week. The data also revealed CCM to have a lower cost when compared to other national community colleges. The school's transfer rate was 6 percent higher than the college with the second-best rate, according to a press release sent by the school. Sheri Ventura, the coordinator of Distance Learning Services at the County College of Morris, was recently presented the 2012 Community College Spirit award from the New Jersey Council of County Colleges. “I am pleased to be recognized for my participation and leadership,” said Ventura. “I also would like to thank and recognize the distance learning professionals and academic officers across New Jersey. Lina Maria Alfonso of Parsippany, a biology student at County College of Morris (CCM), was recently accepted into the Northeast Regional Alliance (NERA) MedPrep Scholars Program at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ). The MedPrep Program is a free summer enrichment program designed to provide college freshmen and sophomores with crucial skills to achieve success on the MCAT as well as in medical school. The program, taught at either UMDNJ or Columbia University, receives funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration. Solix Inc., of Parsippany, N.J., a leading provider of program administration, qualification processing and customer-care solutions for government and commercial clients, has established a new scholarship at County College of Morris (CCM). John Parry, chief executive officer of Solix, recently presented a check for $30,000 to CCM President Edward J. Yaw to initiate a new endowed scholarship to support high school students taking college courses at CCM through its Challenger program. The County College of Morris Board of Trustees hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house at the college’s new Schuyler Place, Morristown, location on Jan. 27. The facility was provided by the Morris County Board of Freeholders and consists of more than 5,000 square feet of classroom and administrative office space. The new location also features six high-tech classrooms, including two computer labs. “We are grateful to the Freeholders for providing this space and for the outstanding renovations, “said CCM President Edward J. Area colleges report most security issues involve the use of alcohol and drugs
Liquor and drug violations far outpace any other illegal activity on four Morris County college campuses, according to annual reports filed by the schools. The reports are filed under the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act by the College of St. Elizabeth, County College of Morris, Drew University and Fairleigh Dickinson University (Florham Campus). The reports are available to the public at each school. In 2010, the latest figures available, Drew recorded 287 liquor law violations that were referred for college disciplinary action or judicial review as crimes, and 12 drug arrests.
