Parsippany resident Vanessa Brown has pled not guilty to aggravated manslaughter and vehicular homicide charges.
Toxicology results have revealed a Parsippany woman accused of killing an East Hanover man with her car in May had ingested cocaine earlier that day, according to Morris County Assistant Prosecutor Kelley Lavery. The Daily Record reported that Lavery shared the results of tests at an arraignment held Tuesday in Superior Court in Morristown. According to the prosecutor's office, cocaine was found in blood samples taken from 32-year-old Vanessa E. Brown, who pled not guilty to charges of aggravated manslaughter and vehicular homicide. If found guilty on both charges, Brown could receive a sentence of as much as 40 years behind bars. The anti-drunk driving effort is the result of a grant given to the Morris County prosecutor's office.
A new checkpoint intended to get allegedly drunk drivers off the roadways will be in Denville Aug. 17 and 18, according to Morris County Prosecutor Robert A. Bianchi. The move is being made thanks to a grant from the state Division of Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded to the prosecutor's office. “The goal of the Grant is to cut down on the number of drunk drivers who utilize our roads as well as to prevent crashes that are the direct result from drinking and driving,” Bianchi said in a statement. The prosecutor's office said the County DWI Enforcement Grant is offered to establish checkpoints in cooperation with municipal police departments at locations throughout Morris County. No one was injured in the two-car crash Monday afternoon, police said.
A Warren County woman was under the influence when she struck another vehicle on Littleton Road and Dolly Drive Monday afternoon, Parsippany Police said. Joyce Weigel, 39, of Belvidere, attempted to make a right turn onto Littleton Road from Dolly Drive and struck another vehicle traveling south on Littleton, police said. No one was injured in the accident, police said. After conducting a brief investigation, Officer David Cavaliere placed Weigel under arrest for DWI, police said. Police said the woman was taken to PPD and later released pending a court appearance.

Parsippany resident's vehicle hit center median at high rate of speed before coming to rest on opposite side of highway.
A Parsippany man is accused of driving while intoxicated and reckless driving following a crash that sent his vehicle over the top of a Route 46 guide rail onto the opposite side of the highway early Sunday morning, according to Parsippany Police. Venkatesh Mannava, 30, also faces charges of hindering apprehension, failure to stop, failure to show officers his driver's license and registration, refusal to submit to breath tests and failure to wear a seatbelt, police said. Officers arrived at the area near Route 46 and Parsippany Boulevard just before 2 a.m., police said. Indictments were handed down Thursday against a Parsippany resident believed to have been drunk when she struck and killed an East Hanover man with her car in May, the Daily Record reported. A Morris County grand jury issued indictments against 32-year-old Vanessa E. Brown on charges of aggravated manslaughter and vehicular homicide. The charges stem from the May 5 accident that killed Ralph Politi Jr., 49, a businessman who served on the Hanover Park Regional High School Board of Education. If found guilty on both charges, Brown could receive a sentence of as much as 40 years behind bars. Falling gas prices to get more Americans on the road for the mid-week holiday.
This year, AAA predicts that almost 1.3 million New Jersey residents will travel 50 miles or more during the Independence Day holiday weekend, an increase of 4.1 percent over last year. With Fourth of July falling on a Wednesday, AAA believes that many travelers are taking advantage of the midweek holiday by expanding their travel from the traditional five days to six. AAA, which has a location in Florham Park, is defining the Independence Day holiday travel period as Tuesday, July 3 to Sunday, July 8. Parsippany Police said a township man was cited for driving while intoxicated late Wednesday night after he was seen urinating into a pickup truck. Police said Officer Marc Fernandez saw James Morgan, 47, urinating into a truck at about 11:30 p.m. The man then entered the vehicle and started the engine, police said. Fernandez stopped Morgan and placed him under arrest. He was transported to police headquarters where he was issued a summons for DWI, police said. He was released to the custody of a family member. A Pennsylvania man was also stopped by police late Wednesday for driving while allegedly drunk. Parsippany Police report handling two driving while intoxicated incidents in the township in the last week. The first came last Friday afternoon, when police said a suspected hit-and-run accident led to the arrest of a Denville resident. Patricia Davey, 53, was arrested after officers responded to a motor vehicle accident near the Outback Steakhouse at 1300 Route 46. Police said the officers were investigating what appeared to be a hit-and-run accident in which Davey's vehicle allegedly struck the rear of another vehicle while traveling west on Route 46. Parsippany Police report a Pine Brook man was arrested Saturday for allegedly driving while intoxicated. John A. Olstrom, 31, might have eluded arrest if he had kept his hands off of his car horn. Police said Officer Michael Sprung was patrolling Sylvan Way at about 3:18 a.m. when he reportedly heard a horn blaring from a 2000 Honda traveling west on Sylvan at a high rate of speed. Sprung pulled the car over and subsequently arrested Olstrom for DWI. The man later received summonses for DWI and for careless driving.
