Wednesday testimony before the Zoning Board of Adjustment focused on an 'academic exercise.'
The Zoning Board of Adjustment continued its long consideration of a proposal to build an International Society of Krishna Consciousness temple at Baldwin and Troy roads Wednesday at Town Hall. It was hoped that perhaps the case could move to final summations or perhaps a ZBA vote, but neither occurred. Instead, the case was carried to the board's June 5 session. The case has been deliberated for more than three years. A host of opponents have fought the project, among them owners of historic homes in the area and businesses such as Baldwin Ventures. They say the ISKCON plan would erode their quality of life and bring noise and traffic to an already congested area. But the primary complaint was the focus of Wednesday's proceedings: …

The long-running ZBA deliberation continued as the applicant late in the game asks to amend plan to request another variance.
There still is no resolution in the International Society of Krishna Consciousness' bid to win Zoning Board of Adjustment approval to proceed with its plan to construct a house of worship in the area of Baldwin and Troy roads. The board heard testimony from two witnesses at its Wednesday meeting before deciding to carry the application over to its April 3 meeting. The matter has been deliberated for more than three years. A host of opponents have resisted the erection of a temple, among them owners of historic homes in the area and businesses such as Baldwin Ventures. They say the ISKCON plan would erode their quality of life and bring noise and traffic to an already congested area. Wednesday's session began with a request from Robert …

Attorney accuses board member Saurin Pathak of having a possible conflict.
The Parsippany-Troy Hills Zoning Board of Adjustment met Wednesday night to take up yet again the International Society of Krishna Consciousness' application to construct a temple in the area of Baldwin and Troy roads. Only one witness went under cross-examination before the meeting was adjourned with the years-long hearing on the proposal set to continue at the body's Feb. 6 meeting. The meeting lasted about two hours, much shorter than has been usual in deliberations of the ISKCON application. It likely would have gone longer, but one witness slated to testify had to bow out for the evening due to a family emergency. There was still action, however: Before the case could resume, Board Attorney George Johnson announced that the ZBA had to…

Planning Board planner's letter among topics that created contention as deliberation on the long-discussed application continued.
The Parsippany-Troy Hills Zoning Board of Adjustment spent another long Wednesday night at Town Hall hearing testimony on a controversial proposal to build a temple at Baldwin and Troy Roads. The four-year-old matter was not settled and will come before the zoning board again Dec. 19. As has been usual as this application's consideration has progressed, conflict was the order of the day during Wednesday's testimony. The moment President Robert Iracane brought the International Society of Krishna Consciousness' application to the floor, the developer's attorney, Robert Garofalo, took aim at a letter planner Edward Snieckus submitted to the ZBA in September. Garofalo insisted that Snieckus, who works for Burgis Associates and serves as …

Changing makeup of neighborhood among concerns raised as testimony continued Wednesday.
The question of whether to permit the construction of a Hare Krishna temple at Baldwin and Troy roads appeared again before Parsippany's Zoning Board of Adjustment Wednesday as testimony resumed on the application by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness. A full house, including many ISKCON members, attended the meeting at2 Town Hall for what turned into another contentious gathering on the matter, which has been under ZBA consideration for more than three years. And it likely won't be the last: As the meeting went past 10 p.m., Vice President George Kimmey, presiding in President Robert Iracane's absence, adjourned the session noting that the temple case would pick up where it left off when the board meets again Oct. 17. The…

Application to be heard again in September.
The Zoning Board of Adjustment's more than three-year consideration of a plan to build a Hare Krishna temple at Baldwin and Troy roads in Parsippany inspired a passionate debate at Wednesday night's meeting at Town Hall. On more than one occasion during a more than three-hour meeting, attorney Robert Garofalo, representing the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, threw up his hands and alternately made a plea or demand to the board regarding allowing the group a use variance, "Can we finally bring this to a vote?" The lawyer did not get his way. The ZBA ultimately adjourned the meeting with a plan to bring up the proposed temple's application again at its Sept. 5 meeting. Before adjournment, however, there were plenty of …

Application still a long way from winning the board's approval.
The Parsippany Troy-Hills Zoning Board of Adjustment continued its consideration of a plan from the International Society for Krishna Consciousness to construct a Hare Krishna temple at the intersection of Baldwin and Troy roads at its Wednesday night meeting at Town Hall. The plan the board heard about, however, was a significantly changed one. Nicholas Gakos, a landscape architect speaking on behalf of ISKCON, revealed new plans for the proposed landscaping of the property. The changes would obscure the temple—as well as any light and traffic impacts—from neighboring homes in what is primarily a residential area. “We’re given a good shot with the canopies with a 16- to18-foot range to deal with all of the concerns, from the temple’s …
