UPDATE: 40 Kids, 2 Adults Sent to Hospital After Bus Crash

Buses carrying 9- and 10-year-old children collide on I-80 in Parsippany.

A total of 40 children—9- and 10-year-olds— and two adults were sent to area hospitals after one school bus rear-ended another at milepost 42.9 on eastbound Interstate 80 in Parsippany Thursday morning, State Police said. One juvenile was transported to Morristown Medical Center with an asthma condition and 39 other children and two adults were transported to area hospitals for reasons ranging from complaints of pain to minor cuts and bruises, state police said. Nineteen of the 40 kids went to St. Clare's in Denville and the rest went to Morristown Medical Center, state police said. Car Carrier Catches Fire, Shuts Lane on I-80

Blaze occurred near Littleton Road exit in Parsippany, officials said.

A car carrier transporting cars caught fire Thursday morning on westbound Interstate 80 in Parsippany, shutting down the right lane of the highway near the exit for Route 202/Littleton Road, authorities said. The fire was reported around 9:10 a.m. and the lane re-opened around 10:30 a.m., according to state police. NJ511 reported the incident delayed traffic 10 to 15 minutes. Parsippany firefighters responded to the blaze, and no injuries were reported, police said. Additional information was not immediately available.

Traffic Shifts to Affect I-80 This Weekend

There will be lane closures in Parsippany while new construction zones are set up.

Upcoming traffic pattern shifts on the Interstate 80 bridges over Interstate 287 northbound and Smith Road in both directions in Parsippany were announced today by the NJDOT. The new construction zones in both directions of the highway will be set up this weekend. Lanes will be closed overnight in each direction Friday and Saturday night to implement the new patterns. They are expected to be in place by noon on Sunday, according to the NJDOT. Once the new construction zones are in place, three travel lanes will be maintained on the eastbound side during daytime and peak period hours, split around either side of the work zone. I-80 W. Exit 47 Closed Friday Night

Exit to 46 westbound and shoulder in Parsippany shutdown for one night, according to NJDOT.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation announced Thursday that Interstate 80 westbound Exit 47 off-ramp to Route 46 westbound, as well as the Route 46 westbound shoulder in Parsippany, will be closed Friday night for milling and paving work. According to a release by NJDOT, variable message signs will direct motorists destined for Route 46 westbound to use Exit 48 for Hook Mountain Road south to Route 46 westbound in Montville. The release stated that all work is weather dependent.  The $4.4 million project, which began in March, is milling and repaving asphalt sections of the roadway and repairing the concrete subsurface on Route 46 westbound at different sections of the highway from just east of I-287 to Two Bridges Road, through …

NJDOT to Begin Rockfall Mitigation Operations on I-80 in Montville

Work will cause off-peak lane closures and potential full roadway closures.

Rockfall mitigation operations along Interstate 80 eastbound in Montville will begin on Saturday that will cause off-peak lane closures, as well as possible full roadway closures, according to a release from the New Jersey Department of Transportation. NJDOT will close a .4-mile stretch of the right shoulder between mileposts 47.5 and 47.9 to establish a construction zone adjacent to the highway. At the same time, the right shoulder along I-80 westbound in the same location will be reopened after similar construction activity was completed. Temporary single- and double-lane closures will be allowed on I-80 eastbound during off-peak hours, according to the release.
