Morris County OEM Encourages Vigilance in Reporting Suspicious Activity

In wake of Boston Marathon explosions, county reminds residents 'if you see something, say something.'

Following Monday's Boston Marathon explosions that left dozens injured at the finish line of the famous annual race, the Morris County Office of Emergency Management issued a statement on their Facebook page. "We have received a number of calls from citizens concerning the explosion at the Boston Marathon," the county OEM said. "We are encouraging everyone to be vigilant and follow the 'if you see something, say something' philosophy." The county also advised that the state has a terrorism tip line staffed by trained employees.  "We have been in touch with our emergency response community and we will continue to monitor this tragic event," the county office said. Snow Expected Starting Early Friday, Says National Weather Service

Morris County's Office of Emergency Management is keeping an eye on what's ahead.

The National Weather Service warns that snow is on the way again. The forecast for our area shows the white stuff likely after 1 a.m. Friday with new accumulation of less than a half inch possible. The snow should fall until about 9 a.m. and then turn into a mix of rain and snow and then simply snow. Another quarter to half inch of accumulation could appear. The precipitation likely may turn back into all snow after 11 p.m. Friday, with blustery winds and gusts up to 30 mph. Sandy Knocked Out Power to 87% of Morris County, OEM Says

'Everyone's overwhelmed,' said Jeffrey S. Paul, coordinator for the county Office of Emergency Management.

Tropical Storm Sandy knocked out power to about 87 percent of an electric company's customers in Morris County, the Morris County Office of Emergency Management coordinator said Tuesday. Along with the widespread power outages, a "tremendous amount of hazards" exist on roads throughout the county, and officials are encouraging the public to stay home so crews can address issues, including down trees, wires and utility poles, on main thoroughfares, said Jeffrey S. Paul, coordinator for the county OEM. "We did get hit pretty hard," Paul said. "Everyone's doing a great job. Certainly everyone's overwhelmed." Morris County Ready For Sandy, Officials Say

Morris County Office of Emergency Management is open now 24/7 through the end of the storm.

While no one was particularly enthusiastic about another approaching hurricane, many in the Morris County Office of Emergency Management were anxious to put in play the new strategies and techniques the developed since Hurricane Irene a little over a year ago. "We learned a lot from Irene," said Director of Emergency Management Jeff Paul. The office, which Paul said is now operating around the clock through the duration of the storm, is ready to offer support to the various munipalities around Morris County. Hurricane Sandy Preparation Underway in Morris County

Morris County OEM advises families to establish emergency and evacuation plans.

While Hurricane Sandy may be making its way to the northeast, Morris County officials have begun to prepare for the storm which is anticipated to impact the area late Monday into Tuesday. "The likelihood of the storm affecting our area has increased significantly over the past 24 hours," according to a letter sent to emergency officials throughout the county Thursday by Jeff Paul, the director of the Morris County Office of Emergency Management.  Paul said "flash flooding is extremely likely" and it is possible that record-level flooding will occur. Citizen Volunteers to Gather at CERT Fest

Morris County Emergency Management Office to offer training during event Saturday.

Morris County's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members will come together for training at the 2012 Morris County Emergency Management Cert Fest on Saturday. The event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy in Parsippany. During that time, training modules in wilderness search and rescue, fire safety, traffic safety and Salvation Army food canteen operations will be offered. The CERT program allows citizen volunteers to train and be prepared for instances of natural disasters or terrorist attacks.
