County clerk candidate says he is 'leading by example'; his crosstown opponent says he's got it wrong.
Morris County clerk candidate and Parsippany resident James Vigilante says that if he wins election, he will "lead by example" by taking a salary reduction of 10 percent. And he challenged his opponents to do the same. Vigilante made the announcement before last Wednesday's meeting of the Randolph Republican Club. "We are asking our workers to do more with less and contribute more to their benefits while they are making less," he said." As Morris County clerk, my salary cut of 10 percent will set the tone." The candidate is running against Freeholder Ann Grossi (also of Parsippany), Jefferson Township Council member Michael Sanchelli, Denville accountant Zbigniew Nowacki and Chester attorney Laurie Bogaard in the June 4 primary. One …

James Vigilante says opponent Ann Grossi is denigrating his service; she denies the charge.
A war of words is brewing in the race for the Morris County clerk's job. Candidate James Vigilante, a Parsippany resident and a U.S. Air Force reservist, says his opponent, Freeholder Ann Grossi, who's also from the township, is accusing him of lying about his military record. According to Vigilante, the two, and the third Republican clerk candidate, Jefferson Councilman Michael Sanchelli, spoke before a meeting of the Mt. Olive Republican club March 20. "After I spoke, I was shocked to hear her tell members of the club along with local elected officials and Morris County elected officials that I was lying about my military record,” he said. “I am disappointed by Ann Grossi’s false accusations. I have focused on my private business …

Council Candidates Robert Peluso and Louis Valori have hitched their campaign to Carifi's effort.
Town Council member Paul Carifi Jr.. running for mayor, now has company in his bid for the top job at Town Hall. Carifi for Mayor announced Thursday that Parsippany Area Chamber of Commerce President Robert J. Peluso and retired Parsippany Police Sgt. Louis Valori, who launched their joint campaign for council last month, will join the challengers' ticket. Carifi said he recently met with Peluso and Valori in Lake Parsippany to discuss their campaign platforms. “Like many people in our community, our families mean everything to us, and it became clear to me that this year’s election is about Parsippany’s future," he said. "It’s about who is best prepared to face the challenges ahead to make Parsippany, said Carifi. Peluso noted that the …

Paul Carifi Jr., a councilman since 2011, will take on James Barberio in June GOP primary.
Get ready for an intra-party battle: Republican Town Council member Paul Carifi Jr. announced Thursday that he is launching a new political fight. "I am announcing my candidacy as mayor of Parsippany-Troy Hills," he said before a standing room only crowd of supporters. The announcement came at Carifi's campaign launch rally at newly opened deli Rick's Bistro on Route 10 Monday evening. The councilman said he chose Rick's, which opened its doors officially last week, because he wanted to support "a business that chose Parsippany." Bringing businesses to the township, he said, is one of the tentpoles of his campaign. The councilman, who recently retired from the Morris County Sheriff's office, told Patch he is running for mayor because he …

Parsippany lawyer steps away from county freeholder board to make a bid for clerk's position.
Parsippany resident Ann Grossi has had a number of titles: lawyer, councilwoman, Morris County freeholder. Now, she is giving up her freeholder seat to run for another position: Morris County Clerk. With Joan Bramhall's Friday announcement that she will not run for a fourth term, three area Republicans have indicated interest: Morristown Assemblyman Michael Patrick Carroll, county Freeholder Douglas R. Cabana, of Boonton, and Grossi. A fourth candidate, Jefferson Township Councilman Michael Sanchelli, also expressed interest, Morris County GOP Chairman John Sette told PolitickerNJ. "It's a different focus than being an elected official in a legislative or policymaking capacity," Grossi said of the shift between freeholder and clerk. "I …
BettyLou DeCroce said she will focus on a fiscally conservative agenda involving cutting taxes, reforming government and boosting business.
District 26 Asw. BettyLou DeCroce, fresh from her Nov. 6 election victory, says she has an ambitious legislative agenda for the new year that features pro-business tax legislation, civil service reform and energy protection for electric utility customers. DeCroce served her first year in the General Assembly in 2012 after she was chosen to fill the seat vacated by her late husband, former GOP Assembly leader Alex DeCroce. Voters then elected her to the Assembly in a special election in November. “My first year in the State Assembly was very rewarding and productive," DeCroce said. "In 2013, I want to put my energy into addressing issues that are important to homeowners and business.” The assemblywoman said one her highest priorities …

Both parties waited for results, cause for celebration in Morristown.
It was a tale of two political parties, and the parties they held across the street in Morristown. For Morris County, a Republican stronghold, most of those at The Side Bar spent the night celebrating a wide slate of GOP victories. While over at Democrat HQ, those gathered waited to see if President Barack Obama would get four more years.

The commendation is named in honor of the late 26th District Assemblyman Alex DeCroce.
Gov. Chris Christie presented the first Alex DeCroce Leadership Award to former Morris County Freeholder John Murphy Wednesday afternoon in Whippany. The presentation was made before the Morris County Chamber of Commerce at Birchwood Manor in Whippany. Murphy is the first recipient of the award created to honor veteran 26th District Assemblyman and Republican Minority Leader Alex DeCroce, who died suddenly in January. DeCroce, a Parsippany resident, was succeeded by his widow, current Assemblywoman BettyLou DeCroce. Ironically, Murphy is an old political rival of the governor's. In 1997, then-Freeholder Christie was challenged for his seat by Murphy, who pulled off the upset. Christie ended up filing a defamation of character lawsuit …

The township's lawyer says there are many steps that must be taken to participate in the special council election coming in November.
Questions continue to swirl in the township over what took many by surprise: that the Township Council seat just filled by appointee James Vigilante is up for municipal election in the fall. Though he addressed some questions last week, Town Attorney John Inglesino told Patch that given the number of people still asking him for clarification, he pursued more research to ensure that those charged with nominating candidates to fill the seat between November of this year and its expiration date, December 2013—and anyone interested in launching a run—are fully and accurately informed well before the election's filing dates. Inglesino offered his answers in the form of a memorandum addressed to Nicole C. Green and Michael Soriano, the …
