Grand Singing, Shriners Circus in Town This Week

Municipal budget expected to be discussed at Township Council meeting.

The search continues for people willing to open their homes to foreign exchange students. Parsippany residents have that opportunity every day this week, including Thursday, as Host an International Student this Summer registration events are held at 4 Gatehall Drive. Students come from Spain, France, Germany, China and Hong Kong. Host families can earn up to $2,000 for three weeks this summer; a stipend of $250 per student per session is offered, and you can host up to four students. For more information, call 973-387-5801 or email mary.ramsden@ef.com.  The Parsippany Township Council meets 7:30 p.m. Tuesday  at Parsippany High School for its monthly regular meeting. Municipal Boards Gather, Uncle Sam's Avengers Beefsteak This Week

Lots happening in the township.

The Parsippany-Troy Hills Planning Board meets Monday to consider building development applications that may run afoul of the municipal master plan. The gathering takes place at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall. The second Tuesday of the month usually means a Town Council agenda meeting, and this May is no exception. The governing body meets at 7:30 p.m. at Parsippany High School. No advance agenda was provided for the meeting by press time. Caring for a loved one dealing with illness is a very difficult pursuit. That becomes doubly true when that loved one is struggling with dementia. Journalist Alex Witchell shares the story of her experiences with her parent in the book All Gone: A Memoir of My Mother's Dementia. Witchell will appear for what …

Living History, Free Comic Book Day Weekend and More This Week

A busy week lies ahead for Parsippany.

Patch continues its weight-loss campaign and wants you to consider the benefits of getting fit too. As part of our continuing efforts to spread the word regarding ways to get fit in the township, we turn again to Zumba: Atlantis Sports Club & Spa in the Parsippany Sheraton, 199 Smith Road, continues featuring Zumba with Diane every Monday at 7:30 p.m. The introductory class offer is over, but Diane is offering a $10 drop-in rate for those who aren't regular class members. Meaning: You can try this entertaining, exhausting, exhilarating and (in our experience—and we're down 38 pounds since Jan. 3) effective workout for just a ten-spot! For more info, call 973-560-5410. It's registration time for parents interested in sending their child to …

Council Talks Budget and Waterview, Veterans' Fair Coming This Week

Busy week ahead for Parsippany

Dancing is a great form of exercise and it's also, for most, a lot of fun. And—especially when you're talking about line dances—almost anyone can join in the fun. Line dancing classes for seniors kicked off last month at the Parsippany Community Center and they're still going strong every Monday at 1:30 p.m. Patch plans to join area seniors in tripping the light fandango this week. Electric Slide? Boot scootin' boogie? The Madison? We're ready. The 2013 municipal budget should get some attention during Tuesday's Township Council agenda meeting this week. The gathering takes place at Parsippany High School under another expectation—that a large turnout will be present for another hot-button topic, the controversial idea to rezone 26.6 …

Sadly, "Sick of the Bull" and Mike M are spot on about how little this Mayoral administration cares about residents have to say at these meetings or hearings. The mayor’s administration is well-versed on the developer’s point of view, but have little to say about what this administration can or will do about effectively representing the township and the taxpayers who pay their salaries. Sit …   more ›

Gun BuyBack Debriefing and Council Talks Waterview This Week

Busy week coming for the township

Was last weekend's Morris County Gun Buyback Amnesty Program held at the Public Safety Training Academy in Parsippany and at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Madison successful? On Monday morning, Acting Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp and other law enforcement officials will meet with media to announce the event's results. Tuesday will be especially busy: At 7:30 p.m., the Parsippany Board of Education holds a special public meeting to discuss its preliminary $132M+ budget for the 2013-14 school year. The gathering takes place at the BOE's administration building at 292 Parsippany Road. At the same time, the Township Council, hoping to avoid a fire capacity shutdown, gathers at Parsippany Hills High School for its monthly …

Parsippany Fundraiser Fights Prostate Cancer And More This Week

Here's a sampling of the goings on in the township this week.

We're in love and we love love, so it's never too early to get Valentine's Day events going, if you ask us. Clearly the Parsippany Free Public Library agrees: Its Mt. Tabor branch at 31 Trinity Park presents Pre-Valentine Events Monday at 4:30 p.m. featuring opportunities to create holiday cards and other meaningful crafts for loved ones and for folks within Parsippany health care facilities. How lovely is that? The event is free. We've lost too many men to prostate cancer, among them singer/songwriter Dan Fogelberg, composer Frank Zappa, actors Bill Bixby and Charlton Heston, tennis legend Bobby Riggs and too many regular guys to count. Do your part to save men's lives. Fighting the deadly disease is the focus of Parsippany Night Out, a …

Controversial Housing Development to be Heard Again

Here's a look at what's happening in Parsippany this week.

Our new year weight loss adventure is going well. If you're finding the need to try something new to get fit, here's an idea: The Atlantis Sports Club & Spa, inside the Sheraton Parsippany at 199 Smith Road, is offering one free Zumba With Diana class to give people a chance to see if the Latin-influenced dance workout is their cup of salsa. The free class with Diana runs Monday from 7:30-8:30 p.m. To register for the free class, go to the club's website. Lance Armstrong and juiced-up baseballers aside, there are still revered sports heroes worthy of honor. And you can find collectible cards and memorabilia paying homage to them on display Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at a weekly Sport Card Show at the Parsippany Police Athletic League, 33 …

Regarding the 700 Mountain Way proposal, I have heard that townhouses and condos go against the town's Master Plan. This is one of the many issues with the Waterview proosal, they want to build 72 townhomes, selling in the range of 450 to 500K, that overlook the rooftop of the stripmall containing Wholefoods, some other "to be determined (Target?)" and possibly a drive through retsuarant or gas …   more ›

Fields Referendum, Free Zumba and More This Week

Parsippany happenings coming up over the next seven days.

If you've started a new fitness regimen for the new year, here's a cool way to burn some calories: The Atlantis Sports Club & Spa, inside the Sheraton Parsippany at 199 Smith Road, is offering one free Zumba With Diana class to give people a chance to see if the Latin-influenced dance workout is their cup of salsa. The free class with Diana runs Monday from 7:30-8:30 p.m. To register for the free class, go to the club's website. Election day arrives in Parsippany again with the Tuesday Board of Education referendum. Voters will decide whether to support the body's $7.7 million plan for athletic improvements at Parsippany and Parsippany Hills high schools. Find election details of the effort to bring Fields of Dreams to Parsippany here. See…
