Parsippany resident to challenge four other candidates in June Republican primary.
With less than a week until the primary election, Morris County Clerk Joan Bramhall has formally chosen to endorse Parsippany resident James Vigilante as her successor. Vigilante, a former Parsippany Township Council member, is a nine-time decorated U.S. Air Force veteran and current Air Force reservist. He announced his candidacy for the county clerk's job in February. "I would consider it a privilege and honor to serve my fellow county residents as their county clerk," said Vigilante during his candidacy announcement. "My military leadership and organizational skills combined with my governing and small business ownership experience is the perfect combination the next clerk needs to possess to pick up where Clerk Bramhall left off.” …

Advocate said he's filed ethics complaint because Montville Library Board attorney Ann Grossi is giving 'false legal advice' on restricting pornography.
The Montville Township Public Library Board's attorney and a retired lawyer advocating against pornography on library computers have different advice on whether public libraries must turn off Internet filters at an adult patron's request. But a recent situation in which a man viewed pornography on a township library computer did not hinge on the filter being turned off at his request, board attorney and Parsippany resident Ann Grossi said Wednesday. He simply got around the filter that's already in place. The Montville library board's technology committee is looking at ways to strengthen the filter as one of the ways the board may address the issue, she said. Grossi advises that the filter be turned off if requested, and points to a U.S. …

Have a thought regarding a municipal matter or another issue? Share it on Patch.
I attended a special Parsippany-Troy Hills Township Council meeting in December 2008, the week before former Mayor Michael Luther’s last year in office. In attendance were the five council members, the business administrator, the township attorney and former municipal clerk Judy Silver. I identify Judy Silver because to me, Town Hall's Council Chambers was her “house,” yet all documents that evening were prepared by Morris County Joint Insurance Fund administrators and distributed by District 26 Asw. BettyLou DeCroce, who then served as Roxbury's town clerk and as MJIF chair. On that evening, we witnessed a deal done before it even started. MJIF is a self-insurance fund comprising of townships mostly from Morris County. When one thinks of …

Parsippany-based Freeholder Ann Grossi is building support for her bid for a new job.
Morris County Freeholder Ann Grossi, running in the June 4 Republican primary to replace outgoing county Clerk Joan Bramhall, has something to celebrate. Her campaign has announced that the Par-Troy resident has won the public support of a long list of New Jersey mayors. The list, headed by Parsippany-Troy Hills Township Mayor James Barberio, who is running for re-election, includes the names of 24 town leaders. An open letter sent to Morris County Republicans by an entity called Mayors for Ann Grossi and signed by Barberio extols the candidates virtues. "As Republican elected officials and community leaders we can think of no one more qualified and capable of continuing the integrity and efficient management of the clerk’s office than …

Parsippany's James Vigilante again accuses fellow township resident Ann Grossi of publicly disrespecting his Air Force service.
Morris County Clerk Republican Party candidate James Vigilante says his U.S. Air Force service was attacked again by fellow candidate Ann Grossi. Vigilante, a nine-time decorated Air Force veteran and current Air Force reservist from Parsippany, appeared at a candidates' debate held at the Montville Senior House late last week. He claimed Grossi’s campaign manager, Steve Roman, sat among the audience and fired questions at Vigilante regarding his military service. According to the candidate, Roman asked Vigilante about the $125 per day he earns as a reservist first sergeant and then criticized him for accepting pay from the military while also trying to run for a government position. Vigilante recently announced that if he wins the clerk's…

County clerk candidate says he is 'leading by example'; his crosstown opponent says he's got it wrong.
Morris County clerk candidate and Parsippany resident James Vigilante says that if he wins election, he will "lead by example" by taking a salary reduction of 10 percent. And he challenged his opponents to do the same. Vigilante made the announcement before last Wednesday's meeting of the Randolph Republican Club. "We are asking our workers to do more with less and contribute more to their benefits while they are making less," he said." As Morris County clerk, my salary cut of 10 percent will set the tone." The candidate is running against Freeholder Ann Grossi (also of Parsippany), Jefferson Township Council member Michael Sanchelli, Denville accountant Zbigniew Nowacki and Chester attorney Laurie Bogaard in the June 4 primary. One …

James Vigilante says opponent Ann Grossi is denigrating his service; she denies the charge.
A war of words is brewing in the race for the Morris County clerk's job. Candidate James Vigilante, a Parsippany resident and a U.S. Air Force reservist, says his opponent, Freeholder Ann Grossi, who's also from the township, is accusing him of lying about his military record. According to Vigilante, the two, and the third Republican clerk candidate, Jefferson Councilman Michael Sanchelli, spoke before a meeting of the Mt. Olive Republican club March 20. "After I spoke, I was shocked to hear her tell members of the club along with local elected officials and Morris County elected officials that I was lying about my military record,” he said. “I am disappointed by Ann Grossi’s false accusations. I have focused on my private business …

Eleven more flood-damaged township homes will be bought out by county to become open space.
The Morris County Board of Select Freeholders have given final approval for the buyout of 11 more severely flood-damaged homes so that they can become community open space. The move authorizes spending $540,510 to provide a 25 percent match for the Hurricane Irene Hazard Mitigation grant funds received from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. FEMA’s 75 percent cost share totals $945,892 for these properties, said Jennifer McCulloch, coordinator of the Flood Mitigation Program. Between the federal and county efforts, Parsippany won't have to spend a cent in the buyout. The freeholders' Flood Mitigation Program, launched in the wake of 2011's Irene, helps municipalities purchase flood-prone houses from willing sellers and convert them …

Ann Grossi has 'great satisfaction' for county's financial achievements.

To the editor: As a member of Morris County’s Budget Subcommittee in 2011 and chair through 2012, I felt great satisfaction that Morris County was recognized in 2013 for being the only county in the state to achieve a decrease in taxes at a rate of .8 percent in 2012. We are now in a position to work at crafting a 2013 budget with a zero percent tax increase. Having been on the budget subcommittee when Gov. Christie’s sweeping legislation was enacted, I know firsthand how his visionary reforms beginning with the 2 percent cap, and in pension, health and labor arbitration set the ground work for the county’s current fiscal achievements. As a direct result of the governor’s vision in combination with the county’s policy of conservative …

Parsippany lawyer steps away from county freeholder board to make a bid for clerk's position.
Parsippany resident Ann Grossi has had a number of titles: lawyer, councilwoman, Morris County freeholder. Now, she is giving up her freeholder seat to run for another position: Morris County Clerk. With Joan Bramhall's Friday announcement that she will not run for a fourth term, three area Republicans have indicated interest: Morristown Assemblyman Michael Patrick Carroll, county Freeholder Douglas R. Cabana, of Boonton, and Grossi. A fourth candidate, Jefferson Township Councilman Michael Sanchelli, also expressed interest, Morris County GOP Chairman John Sette told PolitickerNJ. "It's a different focus than being an elected official in a legislative or policymaking capacity," Grossi said of the shift between freeholder and clerk. "I …

So how exactly would Vigilante serve with honor? His past elected experience, on the Parsippany, council would not reflect that. And how exactly does being an exterminator qualify one for a quasi-legal position? I admire all who serve but that does not bestow honor on a candidate, not is it a reason to vote for them.   more ›
