Athletic Fields Inspire School Board Brainstorming

BOE president asks citizens to serve on a committee to help make field improvements a reality.

Town residents gathered Thursday for a special session of the Parsippany Board of Education for a chance to brainstorm as a community to find ways in which to finance improvements to athletic facilities at Parsippany and Parsippany Hills high schools. For this informal meeting, consisting primarily of public comment, residents came to a microphone to share their views. Some called for better maintenance, some called for fundraising with corporations, some suggested corralling volunteers to take on some of the work. Still others reminded the board that playing fields at the elementary and middle schools need help as well. Most thanked the board for the chance to talk and to be heard. "This meeting is what we wanted, and I appreciate your …

Just curious if we are looking to fix ALL the athletic fields or just the football field? There were a few comments during the FOD presentation and again mentioned during the referendum talks that a girls soccer team came to one of the high schools looked at the field, turned around, got back on the bus and went home. I would say that if there is any field in that disastrous condition that would …   more ›

Residents to Get First Peek at Proposed BOE Fields Plan

Ultimately, township residents will decide what improvements, if any, will be made at the two high schools.

The Parsippany-Troy Hills Board of Education is moving into the new school year with a mission: preparing a plan to present to voters in January regarding potential improvements to the athletic facilities at Parsippany and Parsippany Hills high schools. To that end, the district will hold a special school board meeting Wednesday at 7:45 p.m. at the Board of Education building, 292 Parsippany Road, in order to get input on what types of improvements are wanted by residents. Late last week, the board sent an invitation to community groups, parent-teacher associations, sports boosters and area residents regarding the special session. All residents, however, may attend. "The Board of Education will not be taking any action that evening," said …

It appear that Stietz hasn't been listening to what the people in this town really want, only what he wants. It will be more than the $4.5 million proposed by the mayor, so there go our taxes again. When do we wise up and get rid of this moronic greedy jerk? Artificial turf that has a life of about 8-10 years and then we have to pay again to do it all over, so we will never be done paying for the…   more ›

Fields Moving Toward January Referendum Vote

Superintendent says plans are on track for residents to decide fate of athletic improvements at the high schools.

Parsippany Superintendent of Schools LeRoy Seitz says plans are falling in place to achieve a January referendum in which voters will decide whether to go ahead with athletic improvements at Parsippany and Parsippany Hills high schools. He talked about the Board of Education's version of the project once known as Fields of Dreams at the Thursday school board meeting. Seitz told the State Department of Education gave the district an extension on the July 26 deadline to submit plans for fields improvements, which he said means a January referendum is still possible. He said the first draft of the plans will be delivered to the district Monday and the he will meet with the architects at that time. The superintendent recommended that the board…

Oh, I don't know Monica, maybe because I am disabled and have a hard time getting around sometime, but I hope to fix that in the future though. If you keep an open mind you know yourself if you have any brains that they are padding this thing. There is no way that to put a few parking spaces in and a wheelchair ramp will cost over $ 300,000. The town was putting them in on the corners on every …   more ›

BOE Moves Forward With Fields Plan

School board's architects share their dreams of fields—and athletic-improvement plans.

The Fields of Dreams proposal may be dead, but Par-Troy high school athletic fields could be covered in turf as early as late 2013. The Parsippany Board of Education voted in May to walk away from Mayor James Barberio's turf field plan and to instead take control of the project itself and investigate having residents decide the matter via a bond referendum. In furtherance of that plan, the school board heard a presentation at its Thursday night meeting that hinted at improvements that could become realities for Parsippany and Parsippany Hills High Schools. Representatives from Parette Somjen Architects LLC offered an extensive list of what upgrades are on the wish list for the high schools. These items could become reality if township …

So, let me get this right...if township took Control of fields and completed project, taxes would not go up. Know that the board of Ed is handling this proposed plan, our tax dollars will significantly go up to pay for this..hmmm...doesn't sound that great. Also, where is all the opposition on the Patch regarding lights and traffic-when town proposed the comments on these 2 issues were …   more ›
