Gerald Saluti brought up a difference in the blood alcohol content of two results at status conference for his client, Vanessa E. Brown, on Monday morning at the Morris County Courthouse in Morristown. The Monday court appearance for a Parsippany woman accused of being drunk and under the influence of cocaine when she killed an East Hanover man with her car last May has been moved to Oct. 1, according to the Morris County Prosecutor's Office. Vanessa Brown, 32, has pled not guilty to charges of aggravated manslaughter and vehicular homicide in the killing of Ralph Politi Jr., an East Hanover business owner and community leader. The woman is being held in the Morris County Correctional Facility in lieu of $400,000 bail. If found guilty on both charges, Brown could receive a 40-year sentence. Toxicology results have revealed a Parsippany woman accused of killing an East Hanover man with her car in May had ingested cocaine earlier that day, according to Morris County Assistant Prosecutor Kelley Lavery. The Daily Record reported that Lavery shared the results of tests at an arraignment held Tuesday in Superior Court in Morristown. According to the prosecutor's office, cocaine was found in blood samples taken from 32-year-old Vanessa E. Brown, who pled not guilty to charges of aggravated manslaughter and vehicular homicide. Indictments were handed down Thursday against a Parsippany resident believed to have been drunk when she struck and killed an East Hanover man with her car in May, the Daily Record reported. A Morris County grand jury issued indictments against 32-year-old Vanessa E. Brown on charges of aggravated manslaughter and vehicular homicide. The charges stem from the May 5 accident that killed Ralph Politi Jr., 49, a businessman who served on the Hanover Park Regional High School Board of Education. Hundreds came to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in East Hanover Friday morning for the funeral mass of Ralph Politi Jr., so many that the sanctuary could not hold them all. Many watched a simulcast of the service in adjacent rooms or downstairs. Others stood outside of the church, listening to the audio on huge speakers. Wherever one was, the public display of sadness was apparent as people shared hugs or wiped away tears at the sudden, inexplicable loss of a person who by all accounts worked hard, played hard and gave all he had for his family, his friends and his town. Ralph Politi Jr., the 49-year-old husband, father, community volunteer and business owner died Saturday after being struck by an alleged drunk driver. Politi is survived by wife Rosemarie Rubinetti Politi, twin daughters Dana and Danielle Politi, parents Ralph Sr. and Rita Politi, siblings Mary Tracy, Karen Hartman, Donna Zarelli, Debrah Davis, Rachel Chirumbolo, Susan Wecksler, Rita DeMartinis and Jimmy Politi. Politi was born in Orange, but he lived in East Hanover for his entire life. A 1981 graduate of Hanover Park High School, he grew up to serve on the district's Board of Education. Many in East Hanover remained "shocked" Monday following the death of a lifelong resident who was killed Saturday by an alleged drunk driver in front of his family business. Ralph Politi Jr., 49, was killed Saturday when a Parsippany woman who was allegedly drunk struck him with a car just outside his auto parts business at 30 Ridgedale Ave. East Hanover Township Administrator Joseph Tempesta said the loss is tough for the community to bear.
