Record-Setting, Energy-Saving Car Comes to Town

Wind Explorer, which uses turbine-generated electricity for power, could have applications for everyday vehicles, company officials say.

Can you imagine traveling in a vehicle 3,000 miles—roughly the distance between New York and Los Angeles—for a mere $15? Evonik Corporation, an international firm whose administrative center is at 299 Jefferson Road, says it's not only possible—the feat has been achieved. The vehicle capable of such economical and environmentally friendly travel is called the Wind Explorer. On Wednesday, the wonder car was on view at Evonik's Parsippany site just before setting off on a tour in which it will be displayed in different spots across the country. Evonik Industries Celebrates Par-Troy Expansion

Chemical company came close to leaving the state.

Political figures, company leaders and employees were on hand Monday morning for the dedication of Evonik Degussa Corporation's new North American administrative headquarters at 299 Jefferson Road. More than the mere opening of a new building, the spirited ceremony was a celebration of doing business in New Jersey and in Parsippany. The specialty chemical company, a branch of Germany-based Evonik Industries AG, had given serious consideration to taking its business out of the Garden State, said President Tom Bates. Before the company's lease was ready to expire, Evonik created an in-house task force to explore all possibilities as to where its administrative center should go, according to Bates. Thats real nice, but how much did they give THEM in tax breaks to keep them here. They get the breaks and we make up the difference in higher taxes on this end, sorry but thats not a good deal for the residents.   more ›
