The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office is suing to keep the cash and electronic equipment law enforcement officials seized when it investigated and raided alleged gambling dens in Parsippany and Pompton Plains, according to a Daily Record report. The lawsuit, filed in state Superior Court in Morristown, asks for the $89,063 frozen in bank accounts belonging to the two Connections Cafe locations and its owner, Wayne resident Chester Ward, since they were raided in July, the story said. State law gives law enforcement agencies the right to sue for cash and property seized in investigations and used for unlawful purpose. Few details available surrounding alleged gambling operation busted last week in Parsippany due to continuing law enforcement probe.
Law enforcement officials continue their investigation into an alleged gambling ring that was busted in Parsippany and Pompton Plains last Thursday. And the company that leased space to the operation maintains that it was unaware of illegal activities that may have taken place on its property. "Everything was a total surprise to us," said Carmen Lopez, of Lopez Family Partners in Fairfield, which owns the New Road Plaza and leased 88 New Road to Connections Cafe, who spoke with Patch shortly after officers raided the Parsippany site at 85 New Road. Wayne, Rockaway and Hasbrouck Heights residents arrested at Parsippany and Pompton Plains gambling locations, Morris County prosecutor said.
A multi-agency raid of a North Jersey illegal gambling ring Thursday led to the arrests of four individuals and the seizure of $60,000 in cash and more than $100,000 in electronic equipment, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said. According to the prosecutor's office, simultaneous raids were conducted Thursday afternoon of two Connections Cafe locations on Route 23 in Pompton Plains and on New Road in Parsippany. The investigation began when members of the Pequannock Township Police Department became aware of alleged illegal gambling activities at the two locations, the prosecutor's office said. Undercover agents were able to identify the alleged illegal activity, leading to Thursday's raids and arrests, the prosecutor's office said. …
