Parsippany resident to challenge four other candidates in June Republican primary.
With less than a week until the primary election, Morris County Clerk Joan Bramhall has formally chosen to endorse Parsippany resident James Vigilante as her successor. Vigilante, a former Parsippany Township Council member, is a nine-time decorated U.S. Air Force veteran and current Air Force reservist. He announced his candidacy for the county clerk's job in February. "I would consider it a privilege and honor to serve my fellow county residents as their county clerk," said Vigilante during his candidacy announcement. "My military leadership and organizational skills combined with my governing and small business ownership experience is the perfect combination the next clerk needs to possess to pick up where Clerk Bramhall left off.” …

Parsippany's James Vigilante again accuses fellow township resident Ann Grossi of publicly disrespecting his Air Force service.
Morris County Clerk Republican Party candidate James Vigilante says his U.S. Air Force service was attacked again by fellow candidate Ann Grossi. Vigilante, a nine-time decorated Air Force veteran and current Air Force reservist from Parsippany, appeared at a candidates' debate held at the Montville Senior House late last week. He claimed Grossi’s campaign manager, Steve Roman, sat among the audience and fired questions at Vigilante regarding his military service. According to the candidate, Roman asked Vigilante about the $125 per day he earns as a reservist first sergeant and then criticized him for accepting pay from the military while also trying to run for a government position. Vigilante recently announced that if he wins the clerk's…

County clerk candidate says he is 'leading by example'; his crosstown opponent says he's got it wrong.
Morris County clerk candidate and Parsippany resident James Vigilante says that if he wins election, he will "lead by example" by taking a salary reduction of 10 percent. And he challenged his opponents to do the same. Vigilante made the announcement before last Wednesday's meeting of the Randolph Republican Club. "We are asking our workers to do more with less and contribute more to their benefits while they are making less," he said." As Morris County clerk, my salary cut of 10 percent will set the tone." The candidate is running against Freeholder Ann Grossi (also of Parsippany), Jefferson Township Council member Michael Sanchelli, Denville accountant Zbigniew Nowacki and Chester attorney Laurie Bogaard in the June 4 primary. One …

James Vigilante says opponent Ann Grossi is denigrating his service; she denies the charge.
A war of words is brewing in the race for the Morris County clerk's job. Candidate James Vigilante, a Parsippany resident and a U.S. Air Force reservist, says his opponent, Freeholder Ann Grossi, who's also from the township, is accusing him of lying about his military record. According to Vigilante, the two, and the third Republican clerk candidate, Jefferson Councilman Michael Sanchelli, spoke before a meeting of the Mt. Olive Republican club March 20. "After I spoke, I was shocked to hear her tell members of the club along with local elected officials and Morris County elected officials that I was lying about my military record,” he said. “I am disappointed by Ann Grossi’s false accusations. I have focused on my private business …

Former Parsippany councilman will take on Freeholder Ann Grossi for GOP nomination.
Another Parsippany candidate has tossed his hat into the ring for the Morris County Clerk's job. U.S. Air Force Reserves Master Sgt. and former Township Council member James Vigilante Monday announced today that he will seek the seat being vacated by Joan Bramhall in the June 4 Republican primary election. Among the challengers he will face is fellow Par-Troy resident and Freeholder Ann Grossi. “I would consider it a privilege and honor to serve my fellow county residents as their county clerk," said Vigilante. "My military leadership and organizational skills combined with my governing and small business ownership experience is the perfect combination the next clerk needs to possess to pick up where Clerk Bramhall left off.” Vigilante is …

The township's lawyer says there are many steps that must be taken to participate in the special council election coming in November.
Questions continue to swirl in the township over what took many by surprise: that the Township Council seat just filled by appointee James Vigilante is up for municipal election in the fall. Though he addressed some questions last week, Town Attorney John Inglesino told Patch that given the number of people still asking him for clarification, he pursued more research to ensure that those charged with nominating candidates to fill the seat between November of this year and its expiration date, December 2013—and anyone interested in launching a run—are fully and accurately informed well before the election's filing dates. Inglesino offered his answers in the form of a memorandum addressed to Nicole C. Green and Michael Soriano, the …

Five years after losing his bid for re-election to the council, James Vigilante says, "I'm back, and it feels good."
The Parsippany-Troy Hills Township Council officially has a new member, sort of. Air Force reservist and businessman James Vigilante, who served on the council from 1995-2007, was sworn in Tuesday night at Town Hall to temporarily fill the seat once occupied by newly appointed Freeholder John Cesaro. "I'm back, and it feels good," said the new-again councilman after taking the oath of office. "The last time you were up here, you had a lot more hair," joked Councilman Michael dePierro. "It's deja vu all over again," said resident Roy Messmer. In more ways than one. When Vigilante was sworn in for previous terms, the oath was adminstered by Asm. Alex DeCroce presided over the formality. This time, the late assemblyman's widow, Asw. BettyLou …

John Inglesino addresses questions regarding upcoming council special election to fill unexpired term seat.
Following the Parsippany Township Council's decision to temporarily fill newly appointed Freeholder John Cesaro's vacated seat with James Vigilante last Tuesday and the Wednesday announcement of Democrat Jonathan Nelson's intention to run for the seat in November, some citizens had questions regarding the regulations governing the upcoming special council election. Town Attorney John Inglesino provided answers late Friday. Because Vigilante's appointment took place before Sept. 1, the new councilman's term lasts only until Nov. 6, according to Inglesino. "While the Town Council can and did fill the vacancy temporarily by appointment, the vacancy must be filled for Councilman Cesaro’s unexpired term at the next general election," he said to…

Powder Mill resident Jonathan Nelson preparing to run in November's special council election.
James Vigilante will be sworn in July 10 for the vacated Township Council seat he won Tuesday night—and he already has a challenger for the upcoming November election he needs to win in order to keep his new position through 2013. Jonathan Nelson, a Powder Mill area resident, Parsippany High graduate and longtime local businessman with deep roots in the town, announced his intention late Wednesday to run for the council's unexpired term seat. "I want to give back to the town that raised me," said Nelson, 44, a Democratic committee member frequently seen at council and Board of Education meetings. "There are real important issues in this town that unfortunately have not been addressed," he said. Those issues, said Nelson, include the water…

So how exactly would Vigilante serve with honor? His past elected experience, on the Parsippany, council would not reflect that. And how exactly does being an exterminator qualify one for a quasi-legal position? I admire all who serve but that does not bestow honor on a candidate, not is it a reason to vote for them.   more ›
