Morris Plains man also faces sexual assault charges.
A former Parsippany Boy Scout leader from Morris Plains has been indicted on child pornography charges. Stephen Corcoran, 45, was indicted Tuesday on charges including one count of second-degree distribution of child pornography and 10 counts of fourth-degree possession of child pornography. Acting Morris Prosecutor Fredric Knapp said Corcoran showed an 18-year-old male friend child pornography in the fall of 2011. An investigation of Corcoran's computer revealed images of nude minor males as well as minor males engaged in sex acts, an affidavit on file at Superior Court states. Resident detained in Carroll County, Md. on $250,000 bond.
A Parsippany man is being held in Maryland on charges of sexual contact with a minor boy. Keith William Harp, 44, is charged with eight counts each of third-degree sex offense and sexual solicitation of a minor and one part of sexual abuse of a minor, according to the Carroll County Times. Police allege Harp had sexual contact with the minor in Parsippany and Carroll County, Md., from 2006 to January 2013. He is being held at the Carroll County Detention Center on $250,000 bond.

Rutherford pair robbed a woman in Parsippany, stuffed her into car trunk, acting prosecutor says.
A Rutherford pair have been indicted on charges claiming they kidnapped and robbed a woman at gunpoint in Parsippany before forcing her in the trunk of her car. Joseph Defreitas, 41, and Marilyn Nadeau, 52, were indicted Thursday on multiple charges in connection with the Dec. 29, 2012, incident after being arrested Jan. 17. Acting Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp said in a release that a 71-year-old New Hampshire woman seeking directions encountered Defreitas after pulling into a parking lot on Route 10. Defreitas forced her into his car at gunpoint while Nadeau took the woman's car and followed Defreitas to an ATM in Parsippany, Knapp said. Emergency responders spent two hours late Wednesday afternoon at the scene of an overturned tractor trailer in the area of exit 41 off Interstate 287 in Parsippany. New Jersey State Police were at the site of the accident, as was Parsippany-Troy Hills District 6 Fire Association. Two lanes became blocked in the 4 p.m. hour along 287 south as authorities dealt with the mishap and resulting diesel fuel spill. This created a massive backup that extended through the evening rush. The scene finally was cleared just after 6 p.m. Police were not available to offer further details.

After nearly 200 years of Smith-Baldwin family ownership, the South Beverwyck Road estate is now the property of to Parsippany.
It's official: Parsippany is the new owner of the historic Baldwin House. After more than a year of negotiations and dealings involving environmental issues, Mayor James Barberio on Thursday finally signed the closing documents to transfer ownership of the home at 460 S. Beverwyck Road to the township. The move was first announced in September 2011, when the mayor announced the town's intention to buy the home built in the 1820s from its most recent owner, Anita Baldwin, to who he issued a proclamation sending thanks. Baldwin, whose family had lived in Parsippany since 1733, now lives in California. The Township Council formally approved an ordinance allowing the $672,750 sale in December 2011. To the editor: As a member of Morris County’s Budget Subcommittee in 2011 and chair through 2012, I felt great satisfaction that Morris County was recognized in 2013 for being the only county in the state to achieve a decrease in taxes at a rate of .8 percent in 2012. We are now in a position to work at crafting a 2013 budget with a zero percent tax increase. Having been on the budget subcommittee when Gov. Christie’s sweeping legislation was enacted, I know firsthand how his visionary reforms beginning with the 2 percent cap, and in pension, health and labor arbitration set the ground work for the county’s current fiscal achievements. Tooling about the township, Patch sometimes comes across the most interesting sights.
When we saw a number of geese while driving around Parsippany on a chilly, gray Tuesday afternoon, it got us thinking: Could the birds be missing Bess the Dog, the longtime town worker dog who spent 2000-2010 as Parsippany's goose wrangler? Bess was euthanized Jan. 7, after suffering long-term medical troubles. While she lived, the 14-year-old English border collie worked hard, shooing geese away from grassy areas surrounding schools and in parks, and continued to visit the town's Parks and Forestry office each day, even after her retirement. A Morris Plains man and former Parsippany Boy Scout leader accused in January of showing child pornography to a boy was arrested again Thursday on charges he molested two teenage boys in the 1990s, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said. Stephen Corcoran, 45, is accused of one count of aggravated sexual assault, multiple counts of sexual assault and one count of endangering the welfare of a child. The charges stem from accusations Corcoran molested a 13-to-16-year-old boy between 1997 and 1998, and another 16-to-18-year-old boy in 1999.
