I believe that all residents including myself were affected by Hurricane Sandy through either loss of power, fallen trees, flooding, damage to our homes or unnecessary stress. For most, it has become a daunting task to secure fuel for our vehicles and to maintain our home generators if we lost power, which is reminding me of theenergy crisis of the 1970s. As president of the Parsippany Area Chamber of Commerce, I want to remind friends and family that reports of price gauging by gas stations and companies that sell generators and building supplies has surfaced as well as fictional charities that were set up to help storm victims. We suggest to shop locally and to use chamber members that are reputable partners in our community. Please …

Let's Yo puts a fresh spin on marketing self-serve frozen yogurt.
Parsippany has a new player in the growing self-serve frozen yogurt market: Let's Yo, which can be found at 804 Route 46, right next door to the Shop Rite supermarket. Let's Yo is a bright and colorful place. Green covers the walls, the signs and the iPads at each table. According to owners Russell Rothstein and Marcello Petruzzella, who also own the Paramus franchise, the look of the store, coupled with the sound and the experience, is meant to evoke excitement. The entrance is adorned with velvet rope, and customers are directed to a row of yogurt machines. They can then garnish their yogurt with more than 30 toppings, weigh their purchase and pay. Let's Yo is not the first self-serve yogurt shop in the township, but Rothstein said it's…

It's hard to believe just a couple years ago, rumors were flying about the possible end of First Night Morris. What a difference a couple of successful years makes. In anticipation of the 21st First Night Morris, organizers recently announced this year's Board of Trustees for the annual New Years Eve event in Morristown. "While some First Nights have either disappeared or become a shadow of their former glory, First Night Morris has found a way to keep going and proudly holds the title of New Jersey’s largest First Night celebration," according to a press release. "This annual event provides over 5,000 attendees with an unparalleled value of access to high quality and affordable entertainment and performances at two dozen venues throughout…

After a successful invitation-only pre-opening event held Monday, the new Route 46 Smashburger is open to the public. U.S. Track Olympian Julie Culley was among those to flip the first burgers on Thursday. The restaurant, which specializes in burgers, chicken sandwiches and milkshakes, marked the occasion with a grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony. The Parsippany Area Chamber of Commerce helped with the event. Mascott Corporation, which owns all 11 New Jersey locations of the chain, is a new PACC member, CEO Scott Gillman said. The Par-Troy branch has hired 40 employees, said PACC board member Ildiko Peluso. Gillman said the company places a priority on promoting employees from within. Wireless Express offers more than phones.
The smartphone revolution continues to take shape all over the world—and a new retailer is bringing it to Parsippany-Troy Hills. Wireless Express opened its doors in April and made its arrival official with a ribbon-cutting on June 15. A major part of bringing the cell phone revolution to Par-Troy, according to store spokesperson James West, is bringing down cellular's cost. He said the franchise does this by carrying only Sprint products, which are among the least expensive in the wireless industry. West said the tough economy can pay off for the store, because if customers are comparison shopping to find the least costly choices, they have to check out Wireless Express. “In economic challenges, you’re looking for less expensive, but …

Event benefitting animal shelters in Madison and E. Hanover kicked off June drives underway to help pets
Dogs and their humans headed to the Parsippany Sheraton Hotel May 31 for the first Animal Well Fair. The event, co-sponsored by the hotel and the Parsippany Area Chamber of Commerce, served three purposes: to showcase pet-focused businesses, bring attention to the need for good homes for dogs and cats and to raise funds for the Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter in East Hanover and Madison's St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center. Patrick Athy, who heads the human resources department at the Sheraton and brought his own pup to the event, said the Well Fair was all about giving back to the community and showing love for animals. "We're a pet-friendly hotel," he said, pointing out dog-walking paths around the Sheraton. "Animal shelters do an important…

Parsippany hotel's $20 million renovation offers lush new decor and green-friendly focus.
Beefeater-style trumpeters heralded a red-carpet ribbon-cutting and grand re-opening for the Sheraton Parsippany Hotel. Mayor James Barberio, Assemblywoman BettyLou DeCroce, Police Chief Anthony DeZenzo, Parsippany Area Chamber of Commerce President Robert Peluso and about 150 other guests were on hand for the unveiling of the hotel's new $20 million renovations. Sheraton Sales and Marketing Director Scott Behm said the job that began last summer was extensive. "From the moment you walk in, you can see it," he told Patch. "We've got a new lobby, a new living room, new elevators and a totally transformed fitness center. And then upstairs, all new guest room suites and quarters."
