Lots happening in the township this week
The township focuses today on Alcohol Awareness Month with a special event. The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence of New Jersey presents a speaker program Monday night allowing an open dialogue between parents, young people and community leaders on alcohol and addiction. Mayor James Barberio will present a proclamation designating April as Alcohol Awareness Month in Parsippany. Also speaking will be Sam Archambault, a recent alum of Parsippany High School who has a compelling story about his victory over addiction. Get ready for another busy week in the township.
Fitness is all the rage these days, and as we are learning via our Patch Takes It Off challenge, Parsippany is teeming with ways to get and stay fit. This week, we'll share our experience at Parsippany's new Title Boxing Club (and we'll try out the new Crossfit Lake Parsippany too!). And Monday at 8 p.m., you can try another form of exercise: belly dancing. Parsippany High School, at 309 Baldwin Road, offers an advanced beginner/intermediate course in Middle Eastern Belly Dancing. The cost of the course is $50 and you must be 16 or over to participate. Expect a big turnout when testimony resumes on the controversial Waterview development proposal before the Parsippany Planning Board. We're in love and we love love, so it's never too early to get Valentine's Day events going, if you ask us. Clearly the Parsippany Free Public Library agrees: Its Mt. Tabor branch at 31 Trinity Park presents Pre-Valentine Events Monday at 4:30 p.m. featuring opportunities to create holiday cards and other meaningful crafts for loved ones and for folks within Parsippany health care facilities. How lovely is that? The event is free. We've lost too many men to prostate cancer, among them singer/songwriter Dan Fogelberg, composer Frank Zappa, actors Bill Bixby and Charlton Heston, tennis legend Bobby Riggs and too many regular guys to count. On this Monday, the service group is sponsoring a fundraiser to benefit the New Jersey Sharing Network in support of organ donation awareness.
