Busy week ahead for Parsippany
Dancing is a great form of exercise and it's also, for most, a lot of fun. And—especially when you're talking about line dances—almost anyone can join in the fun. Line dancing classes for seniors kicked off last month at the Parsippany Community Center and they're still going strong every Monday at 1:30 p.m. Patch plans to join area seniors in tripping the light fandango this week. Electric Slide? Boot scootin' boogie? The Madison? We're ready. The 2013 municipal budget should get some attention during Tuesday's Township Council agenda meeting this week. Lots happening in the township this week
On Monday and Tuesday this week, Parsippany and North Caldwell will say goodbye to U.S. Army Sgt. Derek McConnell, who died March 18 of still unknown causes. A viewing takes place from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Par-Troy Funeral Home, 92 Parsippany Road. A funeral mass will be held in North Caldwell at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church, 359 Central Ave. The Parsippany Township Council meets for its second special budget session at 6 p.m. Monday. The public is invited for the Town Hall gathering, in which council members go through various line items of Mayor James Barberio's proposed 2013 municipal spending plan. Lots happening in the township this week
Passover begins at sundown Monday to commemorate the events that led to the biblical exodus of Jewish slaves from Egyptian bondage. But the observance begins early at Temple Adath Shalom. At 6:45 a.m. Monday, the congregation holds a special Siyum Service followed by a festive meal and a telling of the Exodus story of special interest to all first-born children. Passover events will take place at the shul all week long through the 31st. Tax day, April 15, is getting ever closer. If you live in Parsippany and are a senior citizen or someone who is disabled or with a low income, free tax assistance is available, but time is running out. Busy week coming for the township
Was last weekend's Morris County Gun Buyback Amnesty Program held at the Public Safety Training Academy in Parsippany and at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Madison successful? On Monday morning, Acting Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp and other law enforcement officials will meet with media to announce the event's results. Tuesday will be especially busy: At 7:30 p.m., the Parsippany Board of Education holds a special public meeting to discuss its preliminary $132M+ budget for the 2013-14 school year. On this Monday, the service group is sponsoring a fundraiser to benefit the New Jersey Sharing Network in support of organ donation awareness.
