ReplyLast evening's Forum was very illuminating on a number of accounts.
None of the candidates appeared to be very adept at being able to think on their feet. Mr Shah was by far the best and Lord knows what Mr. Ferrara was trying to communicate. You would think that after having knocked on "thousands of doors" that the candidates would be a bit better at formulating and communicating their ideas. Mayor Barberio's aw shucks bufoonery certainly didn't inspire hope especially when you think about the conversations he claims to have had with executives potentially interested in relocating their companies to Parsippany. It's little wonder the vacancy rate is so high.
Equally surprising was how Mayor Barberio, Councilman Carifi and Councilman Ferrara avoided any mention of what they have accomplished while in office. They all have records but appear to be running away from those records rather then on them. (We'll give Mr. Nelson a pass on this given his short tenure as a member of the Council)
Last night was the opportunity for the Republican candidates to demonstrate who Republicans should support in the primary on June 4th? Anyone have the answer to that question? -

Surely you don't believe in "my party right or wrong" and damn those legal and moral truths that, while inconvenient at times, tend to suggest the proper course of political action.
By the way as you well know I am a registered Republican and an elected Republican Committee member to boot and while that doesn't preclude me from getting things a### backwards I do want my registered party affiliation to be clear.
And no I am not convinced that Paul Carifi is "the way to go" as I don't think he has done anything as a Councilman to recommend himself to Parsippany voters. Having said that Mayor Barberio does have a track record that has spelled disaster for the residents of Parsippany and four more years of his ignorance, apathy and paranoia is a price that is way too high for Parsippany to pay. So what's a voter to do? Come on Jerry attacking Carifi is no way to promote Barberio and you know that. Or do you? -

So to your way of thinking Mayor Barberio should consider President Obama to be a role model and Mayor Barberio should govern as you suggest President Obama does govern. Interesting perspective and one I never thought you would hold. But then again politics make strange bedfellows. Might it be possible that if Mr. Carifi prevails in the Republican primary that you wil then support Mr. Nelson for Mayor in November?
As for where the "back rooms" are. Well they are anywhere that the Mayor has conversations that ultimately damage Parsippany because they are conducted for his personal benefit rather than the publlic good. The room that was used on a Sunday evening a couple of months ago comes to mind. -

Perhaps you too might take some time and "buck up on civics 101" Review the part where it discusses the importance of checks and balances and how the legislative and executive branches should be independent of each other. Than take a look at the voting records of the Council members who have served during the Barberio mayoralty and give us examples of when they had the guts to stand up to Mayor Barberio to challenge the secret deals that he had worked out in the back rooms of Town Hall. The only thing more dangerous to the well being of Parsippany than Mayor Barberio being re-elected is if he were to begin a second term with a rubber stamp council consisting of Stanton, Shah and Ferrara lined up to do his bidding. -

As always, good to hear from you and good to see that you have the guts to use your real name when posting on Patch. While we probably disagree on many things it is a pleasure sharing ideas with someone who isn't afraid to attach a name to an opinion. Hopefully, some of our friends (particulary those holding office in Parsippany) will begin to do the same. As far as who is making sense? Well, we should know soon. By the way life is good -

Thank you for adding another word to the Parsippany political lexicon
"Exhonorate" - Is that a word that defines an about to be ex mayor who will leave office without honor? -

All of my campaign yard signs that Barberio's bozos tried to block were on public property. But to your point that was a while ago and so who cares what happened to those signs.
The point that is relevant is that the Mayor's past and current yard sign tactics reflect the Mayor's approach to doing business. That approach involves conducting town business when no one is looking and then when caught deny his role and then when that tactic doesn't work deflect attention by blaming someone else.
Fours years of dumb behaviour, self serving denials and deflections have defined Mayor Barberio's first term in office. Parsippany can't afford to sign up for another four years of that type of duplicitous and destructive governance. Parsippany deserves better -

No question that the political show needs to come to an end and that will only happen when qualified and independent Parsippany residents are elected to servie their community. By the way none of "the boys on the boat" are mine and the hole in the bottom of the Municipal boat must have been caused by the never ending cheap shots that both the Barberio and Carifi crews continue to fire at each other. Unfortunately, the only folks who are getting hurt are the good people of Parsippany who are now drowning in the endless stupidity that has come to define Parsippany's current governing structure and the Parsippany Republican primary campaign -

No bait - Just the hope that common sense and a common sense of decency might trump the carefully calculated and narrow minded self serving views that have come to define the Barberio administration. Conforming to the lowest possible standard may be the politically expedient way to go but that is not a policy or a practice that serves the best interests of Parsippany residents. My understanding is that Mr. Inglesino is being paid by Parsippany taxpayers to further and protect those interests and not those of Mayor Barberio.
By the way Mr. Inglesino's interpretation of Town ordinances has had a profound impact on the way in which Parsippany has been governed over the past three and one half years .

As for lowering taxes - As required Mayor Barberio complied with the directive from the Governor to cap any budget increase at 2%. So he didn't have a choice and based on his comments last evening taxes were increased each year he has been in office rather than decreased. I think he said that even this year taxes would be increased by .8%. So I must have missed his statement last evening that he had decreased taxes becasue if he said that then based on his actual record he must have misremembered.
As to helping bring in more business - When pressed the Mayor rattled off a handful of businesses most of which appear to have been located on Jefferson Road but made no reference to the size of those companies and the number of jobs and ratables they brought with them. Five companies over four years? When Mayor Barberio ran four years ago, he promised, that once in office, he would work to create a strategic plan to grow Parsippany's ratable base. Four years later no plan and a record high vacancy rate.
As for lowering sewer fees - I don't know enough to comment
As for etc - I would love to hear more about what Mayor Barberio has accomplished for Parsippany over the past four years.
Parsippany residents have every right to ask if they are better off from an economic, safety and quality of life perspective than they were four years ago. Last evening Mayor Barberio had the opportunity to make his case as to why he deserved four more years. He failed to do so.
