On the article Anti-Waterview Plan Residents Decry Developer's 'Threat'

Harland

Actually, they can say no when the plans don't conform to the zoning. Why is this unreasonable? I bought my house with the understanding that my property is zoned for a single family home and there are restrictions to what I can do with my property. I can't tear down my home and build a 3 family house. I can't build a cell phone tower on my property. Isn't it arrogant of the developer to purchase a property that THEY KNOW IS ZONED FOR OFFICE BUILDINGS, and then immediately complain that there is no market for offices?
Maybe if the developers showed some respect to the local residents, there would be less opposition. Try submitting a proposal that conforms to the same restrictions as the current zoning in terms of buffers and lot coverage but with a request for alternate usage, such as retail. The problem here is developer greed - they want to pave over every square inch of the property in order to maximize their profits. That is something the current zoning doesn't allow. Why should they be able to do something on those 26 acres of land that the current owners of the other 100 acres of Waterview property can't do?

ReplyTactical error on the part of the developer. They've shown that they're now doubting whether their original proposal will be approved, so now they're resorting to ridiculous threats. Shows that they realize this isn't a slam dunk, and that the residents of Parsippany aren't going to sit back while they defecate on our town. Kudos to CHSW for keeping up the pressure. Because of your efforts, we now see the true colors of the developer.
Interesting that the article doesn't mention the "low income housing" portion of the lawyers letter. This was another blatant and ridiculous threat.

ReplyMr Mayor,
Let's put aside the bribery accusations for a moment. There seems to be no dispute that there was a discussion about creating a new job within the police department. Why would you propose a ridiculous "public relations" job when Parsippany clearly needs more police officers? Is it because you're incompetent? Or was this really a bribe, in which case you're corrupt? -
On the article Residents Slam Waterview Proposal at Council Meeting

Actually Ed, they can't pave over the whole thing. Current zoning places restrictions on the amount of area that can be occupied by buildings and pavement. When the developer wrote the proposed re-zoning (yes, the developer wrote it, not the Township), they removed nearly ALL the current restrictions in terms of buffers and permeable land requirements.
I think most residents would accept a compromise that permitted retail development but retained the current protections. If done this way, it would truly fit the definition of an "overlay zone". As submitted, this proposal is actually spot zoning.

ReplyThe Mayor and his running mates lost my vote when Barberio threw his support behind the Waterview/Whole Foods project. He's given the developer free reign in rewriting the zoning of that property, to the detriment of the community.

ReplyA councilman who abstains from a vote (unless he/she has a conflict of interest in the matter) is not doing his job. Councilman Nelson should resign if he cannot make tough decisions.

ReplyAnyone wanting to ice skate for free, there is a public outdoor skating rink on Parsippany Blvd (near the town engineering dept). The ice is only a few inches thick, so no concerns about falling through.

Joe,
I didn't see any mention about the candidates' educational background on the website you provided. All I did see was alot of campaign statements from team Barberio presented in a pathetic attempt to appear like an unbiased website.
